The Jet is considered to be one of the greatest martial arts legends of all time.
On June 20 in 1952, Crazy Lupe gave birth to a baby boy in the harsh and dangerous Pacoima Projects in the San Fernando Valley. The youngest of nine, in a family that would spawn six champions, Benny Urquidez was the one who would grow up to become a World Champion 6 times over.
His mother, a professional wrestler known as Crazy Lupe of Native American/Mexican descent, would provide him with the spiritual foundation that ultimately became the biggest part of who he is. His father, a professional boxer of Spanish/American descent, taught him the lessons of
instilling fear into others at the age of 3 when he began training his son to box barefoot against his brothers in the midst of thicket bushes.
At 7 he began to study the Martial Arts. He was prodigious. Small in height but gigantic in stature, Benny fought his way through a rough childhood, street fighting, then in competitive martial arts, earning himself a reputation as the one to beat. Overcoming the dangerous streets of his youth, finding an honor, love & respect for martial arts, he became the youngest to ever receive a black belt at 14.
The Jet became a champion kick-boxer in the same year full contact karate was introduced to the United States. Blending the sports of Full Contact Karate with Boxing, American Kickboxing was born at his hand. He pioneered the sport with a meteoric rise to fame, traveling the world defeating champion after champion, catapulting to world prominence and ultimate dominance throughout the 1970's-1990's.
Benny The Jet Urquidez remains one of the longest reigning champions in the history of modern martial arts. He obliterated every challenge that life threw at him to become one of the most decorated, and inspirational World Champion athletes of modern day sports.
